Nicholas K. Liapes, of Willimantic, died Tuesday May 18, 2004 at the Windham Hospital. He was born Feb. 28, 1935 in Nestani, Greece the son of Konstantinos and Maria (Skropolithas) Liapes. Immigrating to the United States in 1951, he settled in the Hartford/New Britain area where he established several businesses. He then spent several years in Glens Falls, N.Y. and in 1970 relocated to Willimantic where he and his wife Bessie opened Mama's Pizza. He was a member of the Arcadian Club in Hartford. Nick had many friends and was well known for his generosity. In addition to his wife Bessie, he is survived by 2 sons; Costas Liapes and his wife Jacqueline and their son Niko of Mansfield and Nicholas Liapes Jr. of Willimantic, a brother John Liapes and his wife Maria of Storrs, his mother in law Giannoula Borovila of Willimantic and several nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00pm. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:30 at The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 414 Valley St. Willimantic, with burial following in the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery, N. Windham.
