Neil Hart, Sr. Obituary
Neil B. Hart, Sr., 87, of Windham, CT passed away on July 13, 2022. He was born on March 6, 1935 in Boothbay Harbor, ME, son of the late Walter E. Sr. and Minnie A. (Swett) Hart.
Neil had a love for the open sea and the fishing village where he spent much of his childhood on the water with his Grampie, who was a sea captain. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and UConn Women’s Basketball fan. Neil loved country music and his idol was Johnny Cash. He would reminisce of the time he met Johnny Cash, had a drink with him and was invited side stage at his concert that night.
He worked as a foundry worker for many years and before retirement as a custodian at Windham High School. Neil also worked with the Special Olympics.
Neil was always helping those in need; both his loved ones and anyone that crossed his path that needed a helping hand. He wanted to be remembered for trying to make a difference in people’s life.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. (Bessette) Hart; children, Neil B. Hart, Jr. and his wife Sandra, Dawn Washington and her husband Bob, Van Heinz and his wife Amie, Douglas Hart and his wife Cathy, Wendy Shaw and her husband Timothy, Sharon Phaneuf and her husband Alan, Blaine Hart and his wife Sandra, and Christy Meikel; sister, Ardist Footman; 13 grandkids and 12 great grandchildren who he loved very much. Neil was predeceased by his brothers Walter Hart, Jr. and Preston Hart; sister Phyllis Webber; and brothers-in-law Harold Webber and Red Footman.
Neil’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am with his funeral service starting at 11:00am at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
