Nancy Mueller Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Nancy Mueller, age 90, announce her passing on Monday, April 3, 2023. Nancy passed at home and remained independent up until almost the end of her life.
Nancy was a long-time resident of Glastonbury, CT. Born February 13,1933 in Medford, MA, she was the daughter of the late Bartholomew and Theresa Mahoney. Ann Marie was her birth name, but everyone always called her Nancy. In 1950, Nancy was a graduate of St. Clements High School, in Medford, MA. She worked for an insurance company and then also the telephone company in Boston for about four years.
Nancy met Warren Mueller, her future husband of 20 years, at Hampton Beach in NH. They were married in 1954 and moved to CT so that Warren could attend UCONN where he had received a football scholarship. Nancy was able to continue working as a Long-Distance Operator, at the telephone company. After Nancy and Warren’s four children were born, she stayed at home to care for her children.
Nancy and Warren raised their family in Lebanon and Willimantic, CT. Most of all, Nancy loved her four children, her eleven grandchildren and her one great-grandchild. When we look back over the years, we remember countless days, holidays and birthdays, filled with laughter, good cheer and family. She was always so happy to hear every detail of our lives, our hopes, dreams, disappointments and achievements. She was our biggest cheerleader.
Later in 1977, Nancy moved back to the Boston area and lived in Lexington, MA, for about ten years. She attended Boston University and graduated with a Sociology degree. She loved the city with its vibrant life and energy. Nancy loved attending the theatre to see Broadway shows and going out to restaurants. Cape Cod was Nancy’s happy place. She bought a cottage in West Yarmouth and enjoyed it for over ten years. Nancy loved being near the water and the cultural happenings of Cape Cod. Fried clams were always a special treat; as well as visits from the grandchildren when miniature golf was always played, and the candy store was always a stop at some point. Nancy also owned and rented property at Cape Cod for 15 years. She could be found for many years with a paintbrush in her hand fixing up the two houses that she owned.
Nancy moved back to CT in 1988, to be closer to her children. She lived in Glastonbury, CT for 35 years. She enjoyed working as a substitute teacher for years, mostly in an elementary school in East Hartford. At this time, Nancy also traveled all over the world: China, many European countries, Ireland, Thailand, New Zealand and Australia just to name a few places. She was courageous and independent to go alone.
Nancy leaves her daughter, Sandra, and her son-in-law, Greg Jonas, of Hebron, CT; her daughter, Doreen and her son-in-law, Jim Sauve, of Marlborough, CT; her daughter, Kathy and her son-in-law, Mark Vincent, of South Kingston, RI; her son, Bill Mueller, of Providence, RI; her eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Nancy also leaves her nephew, Michael Mahoney, of Lynn, MA; her niece, Terry Phillips of Danvers, MA; and her niece, Maureen Barnett, of Austin, TX. In addition to her parents, and her former husband, Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Jack Mahoney of Lynn, MA; and her brother, Paul Mahoney, of East Boston, MA.
Nancy blessed her children with her support and unconditional love. She helped to make them what they are today by giving them a strong core of independence and self-belief. Nancy always told her children to “have fun” when they were leaving the house. She wanted them to “follow their hearts” and to be “their own best friend”. Nancy always spoke her mind and stuck to her convictions. She was strong willed and proud of her Irish heritage. Even though she spent most of her life in CT, Nancy was a proud Irish Bostonian. She will be truly missed by her family.
Nancy’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, April 15, 2023. A private family service will take place in Willimantic, CT, followed by her burial at St. Peter’s Episcopal cemetery, in Hebron, CT.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “Water Is Life Kenya”, through their website,
