Nancy Macaulay Austin

Nancy (Carmichal) Macaulay Austin, 71, of Columbia departed this earth on Thursday November 3rd 2011. For the past 15 years, Nancy enjoyed life and lived life as fully as she could even as she battled cancer. She was born in Manchester, NH on August 27, 1940 the daughter of the late John and Myrtle Carmichal. Nancy was predeceased by her first husband of 29 years Donald Macaulay. She is survived by her husband of 16 years Arthur Austin. She is also survived by daughters Dawn Salan and husband Joe, Jill Levasseur and her husband Paul both of Hebron; Stepsons Stephen Austin and his wife Beverly of Somers, James Austin and his wife Terrie of Freehold, NJ and Peter Austin of Manchester; Eight grandchildren Sean Levasseur, Ben Levasseur, Joshua Salan, Jack Salan,, Katelyn Austin, Jeffery Austin, Jose Austin and Daniel Austin; and two aunts Lestania Lane of North Windham and Rita Fulmer of Buzzards Bay, MA. She graduated from St. Anselm in 1962 with a BSN and received a MS degree from Eastern Connecticut State University in 1983. She retired from the State of CT as Department Head of the Practical Nurse Education Program at Windham Technical School. She has been an item writer for the National Council Licensure Exam for Nurses, a text book reviewer for J.B. Lippincott Co. and a consultant for F.A. Davis Publishers. She was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society for many years as a driver. Nancy was a survivor chairperson for Relay for Life, and served on the Columbia Commission on Aging. She also was a member of The Gilead Congregational Church and served on the Mission Board. Nancy is well respected as a Nurse/Educator by her colleagues and students. She enjoyed her retirement; especially traveling around the world, working in her gardens and spending time with her grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday November 9th at 6 P. M. at The Gilead Congregational Church, 672 Gilead Street, Hebron, with The Rev. Dr. Denise Esslinger officiating. The family will receive friends after the service and a dinner reception will follow.
