Dr. Morris B. Whitman, 94, of Vernon, formerly of Storrs, husband of Ruth (Chertow) Whitman, died Friday March 12, 2004 at Rockville General Hospital. He was born July 4, 1909 in Hartford, the son of Benjamin and Tillie (Tucker) Whitman and had lived in Storrs for many years before moving to Vernon. He was a graduate of Bern University Medical School in Switzerland and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. Dr. Whitman had private practices in Ellington and Bronx, NY before becoming Chief of Radiology in Veterans Administration Hospitals. He served in that capacity in VA Hospitals in Lake City, FL, Wilkes-Barre, PA, Fresno, CA and Newington, CT. He then opened private practice in Storrs in 1962 and was also an associate of Seymour Kummer MD in Rockville. In addition to his wife of 58 years he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, June and Jerome Laszloffy of Storrs, a son, Arnold Whitman in Carlsbad, CA, 3 grandchildren, Tracey Laszloffy, Joyce Laszloffy, Tobie Whitman and a brother-in-law, Paul Chertow of Worcester, MA. He was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Whitman. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Hillel Burial Society Cemetery, Rte. 32 at Rte. 31, Mansfield.
