Minnie (Kemp) Halbach, 83, of Hampton, wife of the late Adolph Halbach Sr. passed peacefully January 4, 2014 at St. Joseph Living Center in Windham. Born Sept. 2, 1930 in Hampton, the daughter of Andrew and Helen (Knight) , Minnie resided there all her life. Adolph and she married in 1948 and three sons followed. She was employed at the Electro Motive Manufacturing Company for 29 years and SEMCO in Willimantic until their closing. An active member of the Grange for over 50 years she was Master of the Brooklyn Grange until they gave up their charter. Minnie, Adolph, along with son George worked for the Hampton Cemetery Association for 46 years, providing mowing, clipping, and burials. Minnie continued for a short time after Adolph's passing, but in her seventies digging in frozen ground proved quite difficult. Longtime members of Hampton's community will remember her love of ducks and geese. She spent four decades of raising blue ribbon winners competing at all the local country fairs. She would be seen all over town, mowing, house sitting or checking on a neighbor. When the Hampton Gazette was created she became the delivery person, and continued to do so for about 30 years. Minnie is survived by two sons, Adolph Halbach Jr. and his wife Debby of Danielson CT and John Halbach and his wife Judie of New Durham, New Hampshire; daughter in law Kietha Halbach of Ashford CT,ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sisters Harriet Kemp of Brooklyn, CT and Sue Brayman of Norwich, CT; a brother Len Howell and his wife Sue of Vernon, CT and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Adolph Sr., son George, and brothers Judson, Herbert, Phil and Robert . Minnie, her sense of humor and caring personality will be missed. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday Jan. 9, 2014 between 2:00 and 4:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Cedar Swamp Rd., Hampton. Interment in Litchfield Cemetery, Hampton, will be in the spring.
