Mildred Safin

Mildred( Arson) Safin, 89, of Mansfield CT died peacefully at her home Sunday morning, November 28, 2010. Born in Manchester, CT on January 28, 1921, she made her home in Mansfield for many years. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lena (Kurlowicz) Arson. Mildred graduated nursing school and was employed as a nurse at Rocky Hill Veteran's Hospital and Mansfield Training School. She was a loving wife, dedicated mother and devoted grandmother who cared deeply for her family. She loved camping, playing cards, family reunions and Jeopardy. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Walter Safin and former husband Salvatore Strano. In addition, she was predeceased by her grandson, Douglas Hence, two sisters, Stella Robbins and Mary Foran and 2 brothers Ray Arnson and Walter Arnson. Mildred leaves behind a daughter Angela Hence of Mansfield, CT, a son and daughter-in-law Frank and Diane Strano of Manchester, CT and a daughter and son-in-law Sally and Jerry Simison of Alexandria, IN, three sisters, Dottie Fescer of Lakewood, OH, Ann Walker of Arlington, VA, and Helen Palmer of Lewes, DE; her eleven precious grandchildren-Russell, Dan, Shelby, Gina, Tom, Stephanie, Lori, Jeff, Debra, Kelly and Amy; seventeen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. We wish to extend a special thank you to Julia Joseph for taking such wonderful care of Mildred. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday Dec. 3rd between 9:30 and 10:30am at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic prior to her 11:00am Funeral Mass at St. Mary Church, Valley St. Willimantic.
