Merton Wolff Obituary
Merton R. Wolff, 92, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 at home. He was born May 4, 1927 in Willimantic, CT the son of the late William M. and Ruby (Williams) Wolff. Mert was a life-long resident of Columbia, CT and graduate of Windham High School, Class of 1945.
After serving two years in the Army, he returned to Columbia where he would reside for the rest of his life. He was a CT State Employee, working first as a toll collector on the Gold Star Memorial Bridge in New London, CT. He transferred to the Mansfield Training School from which he retired after many years of employment.
Mert is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Ronald Gingras, his nephew, Brian Gingras and his wife, Nancy, two great-nephews, Corey Gingras and his fiancée, Brittany Zulkiewicz, Kyle Gingras, two great-nieces, Megan Gingras and Shay Gingras. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Lynwood Lathrop, and his nephew, Craig D. Gingras.
Mert was a member of the Columbia Congregational Church, Columbia Senior Center, a 60-year member of the Columbia Lions Club and a life member of the Columbia Historical Society.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 23, 2019 at 11:00am at the Columbia Congregational Church, Route 87, Columbia, CT.
