Maurice Thompson Obituary
Maurice C. Thompson, 96, of Mansfield Storrs, CT passed away on December 31, 2022. He was born in Mansfield, CT, the son of the late Royal and Lillian (Popple) Thompson. He was predeceased by his wife, Madelyn (Rood) Thompson. Maurice and Madelyn were married for 67 years.
Maurice was a veteran of the Army 82nd Airborne and was employed at Uconn in the Carpentry Shop until his retirement 46 years ago. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years.
After his retirement Maurice became involved in the Farmers Market in Willimantic as well as having a vegetable stand at his home in Mansfield. He also enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and selling items at the Brimfield Antique shows in Massachusetts. Maurice and Madelyn also ran Thompson’s Christmas Tree Farm in Mansfield for more than 50 years,
He is survived by his son Eldon, his daughter Cathy (Thompson) Brierley and her husband Ken of Mansfield, his son Andy and his wife Cynthia Thompson of Maine, his granddaughter Sara (Brierley) Arteaga and her husband Francisco of Southbury and his grandson Daniel Brierley and his wife Kristen of Ashford, and his dear friend, Carol Colombo of Storrs who he enjoyed dining out with and shows at Jorgensen. Carol was also essential to his care and well-being over the last several years.
In addition to his wife, Maurice was predeceased by his brother Royal Thompson and his wife Hazel and his brother Willard Thompson and his wife Laura.
Maurice’s graveside service will be on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00am at Pink Cemetery in Mansfield, CT.
