Dr Maurice Gene Moore WINDHAM - Maurice Moore, 82, of Windham Center, died Wednesday December 12, 2007. He was born to Leonard & Estal Conrad Moore (Angstadt) on February 16, 1925 in Petersburg, Indiana. "Gene" was educated in the Indiana public schools and graduated from Girstmeyer High School in 1943. He received a BS from Indiana State University in 1948 and an MS from Indiana University in 1951. He also received a PHD from Michigan State in 1966. He taught public speaking and coached debate in Indiana high schools until 1956 and then went to work teaching at Flint Michigan Community College were he became the first director of the Robert T Longway Planetarium. It was not until 1966 that he came to CT to join the faculty of Eastern Connecticut State University. After being there only a short time he was named Dean of Graduate Studies. When that position was eliminated Maurice moved to the Media department of ECSU were he became department chairman. He stayed there until retiring in 1987. At that time he was made Professor Emeritus. After he retired he stayed busy traveling and helping out at Windham Center Congregational Church. He also loved to spend time with his family. He was a veteran of WWII who fought in the Battle of the Bulge but left the service in December of 1945 due to an injury. He was a recipient of a purple heart and also a lifetime member of the Vets of Foreign wars, American Legion and the Disabled American Vets. He was predeceased by his wife Betty Jane (Ferree) Moore who died 05/08/2007 and his sister Alice (Moore) Rombough of FL. He leaves his five children and their families. First born son Michael Moore &wife Maxine of FL, his children Aisling & Kevin McCloskey of CT and their children, Robert & Kelly Moore of CT and their children, and Conor Moore of CT; his second born son Leonard Moore & wife Gail Of TX, his children Alex & Katrina Moore of TX and their child, Ben Moore of CA, Andrew Moore of TX, and Katie Moore of TX; His third born son Ronald Moore & wife Caroline of NC , their children Missy Moore of GA and her child, Angelic Moore of GA; Maurice's First born daughter DiAnna Moore of CT, and her children George Babey of MA, Jennifer Babey OF CT, and Justin Babey of CT; and youngest daughter Margaret Moore of MA, her children Amanda Melahouris of MA, Elizabeth Melahouris of MA, and Michael Melahouris of NH. He also leaves behind many others dear to his heart including especially Steven Grylls, Carmel Moore and Virginia Francois all of CT, and the staff and residents of St Mary Home, West One, in W Hartford CT. Calling hours will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday December 17, 2007 at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St, Rte. 195, Willimantic. The funeral will be held at the Windham Center Congregational Church, jct. Rte. 14 and Rte. 103, on Tuesday December 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a grave side service in the Windham Center Cemetery.
