Maurice Albert Caya 88, of Hampton, died Saturday October 15, 2011 at home with family present. He was born September 5, 1923 in Willimantic the son of David and Leah Caya. He grew up in Willimantic. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was a member of the 101st Cavalry Division serving in the south pacific in World War II. After the war he met and married his first wife, Louise Jewett of Hampton. They married in 1947 and had two sons, Craig and Brian. Maurice became a member of Hampton Fire Company in 1947 and helped in the construction of our existing fire house. He worked for the Town of Hampton constructing roads in the 1950's & 60's. He helped his father in law, Carl Jewett, on the family dairy farm and eventually ran it fully. After retiring from dairy farming, Maurice became a custodian at Parish Hill High School in 1967 until his final retirement in 1989. In retirement he traveled, enjoyed helping his sons and working in his garden. Maurice was predeceased by a brother, Roger Robert Caya of South Windham in 2002, and three wives, Louise Jewett Caya in 1988, Simone Caya in 1990, and Lucille Caya in 2008. He is survived by his loyal cat Junior, his son Craig and wife Salene; his son Brian and wife Lori and their daughters, Briana and Danielle Caya all of Hampton; two brothers, Leonard Caya of Willimantic and Raymond Therrien of Orange and a sister Theresa Buell of Eastford. A memorial service will be held at Hampton Congregational Church, Main Street, Hampton, on October 29, 2011 at 10:30 am followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
