Obituary

Maureen Joyce Kirouac, 83, of Storrs CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Maureen or " Mollie " to her friends, was born on 6/02/42 to Henry Kirouac and Maureen (Casey) Kirouac and grew up in Waterbury CT. She was happily married to the late Victor L. Kaplan for over 20 years and leaves her son Dennis, daughter in law Kelly DiGiovanni, stepdaughter and husband, Nell and Dean Kies, stepson Dan Kaplan and his wife Jerelyn Thomas. She also leaves many friends she adored from her tennis days, life and work experience and the Glen Ridge community where she resided for fourteen years. Mollie earned a BA and Masters of Social Work at UConn and was an outstanding social worker for the CT department of children and families for over thirty years. A lifetime reader of classical literature, she was an enthusiast of the works of American writer Henry James. She had a great passion for tennis, UConn basketball, Scrabble and other word games, the arts and gardening. After her husband's death, her daughter in law Kelly encouraged her to find a new home which brought her to Glen Ridge co-op which proved to be a wise decision. She was on many committees including movie night, hospitality, building and grounds among many others and planted many flowers there through the years. Mollie treasured her time there. She was the most amazing mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend and professional imaginable and we are beyond thankful to have had her in our lives. Mollie lived by this route from Henry James. Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind: the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind. There was a private burial service.
