Maureen Forbes

Maureen Forbes, of Vernon, died Wednesday February 17, 2016. Maureen was born October 30, 1933 in Providence, RI, to William and Gladys Ellery. She worked in Providence, RI, where she met and married her loving husband of 56+ years, George T. Forbes Sr. She traveled with him as he served in the US Army for 20 years, serving in France and Thailand. They moved to Connecticut following his military service. Maureen was employed at Aetna Life Insurance Co. in Hartford, CT for more than 20 years. She is survived by her four children; Denise Hauser of Vernon, CT, George T. Forbes Jr of Acworth, GA, William R. Forbes of Columbia, CT and Wayne S. Forbes of Winter Park, FL., two brothers, William and Gordon, and several nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved by her eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Maureen was very active in the Episcopal Church, most recently at St. Mark's Chapel in Storrs, CT. She served in various capacities on the Altar Guild for most of her life. Maureen sang women's barbershop as part of the Sweet Adelines organization for 20+ years. She acted as the registrar for the region for several years and served as chorus president for several terms. There are no calling hours. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday May 14, 2016 at St. Mark's Chapel, 42 North Eagleville Road, Storrs Mansfield, CT.
