Matthew Mullen

Matthew Mullen, 76, previously of Jewett City, CT, passed away the morning of Friday, January 5, 2018 after a long battle with COPD. The youngest of 5 children, Matthew was born at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital on October 20, 1941 to Francis and Viola (Brown) Mullen. Matthew graduated from Waterford High in 1960, and after high school, he enlisted in the Air Force. He made his career at the Groton Submarine Base as a computer operator where he met his wife of almost 32 years, Mary (Turrisi) Mullen. After the birth of their daughter, they moved to Jewett City where they lived until November 2017. During the last weeks of his life, Matthew lived in South Windham with his wife, daughter, and son in law. He was awaiting the arrival of his first grandson, who was born the evening of Thursday, January 4, 2018. After hearing the news that the baby had arrived safely, Matthew was able to be at peace and let go of his suffering. Most important to Matthew was his family. He leaves behind a wife, Mary; daughter, Elizabeth; son-in-law, Jason and a grandson, Raphael. He also leaves behind a step-daughter, Tammy; her daughters Anna and Niomi; Anna?s daughter, Tamari; a twin sister, Julia; a brother, Francis and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his siblings Elizabeth and George. A burial and celebration of his life will be held on June 1, 2018 at 11AM at the Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown , CT 06457.
