Mary Knapp Simonds, 77, of North Windham, passed away at her home in the presence of her family on Wednesday August 8th, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 5, 1929 in Holyoke, MA. the daughter of John and Leone Fogg. In 1954, she was married to William Porter Knapp Jr. who died in 1956. In 1959 she married William E. Simonds. Mary was a graduate of Windham High School and resided in Willimantic most of her life where she had been employed by Haven Health Care Center for twenty years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapt. #1116. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and an occasional game of bingo and participating in Moose Club Functions. Her kind and loving nature will be sadly missed by those whose lives she touched. She is survived by four children, Mary Ellen Hovey, Maggie Knapp, Debby Rice and Joey Knapp; five grandchildren, Shelby Lynn Casas, Tammy Simonds, Walter Hover Jr., Colleen Hovey and Cheryl Knapp, eight great grandchildren, a sister Doreen Bromley of Brooklyn, two brothers, Don Fogg of Manchester and Leo Fogg of Strausberg, WV. and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Lawrence Fogg. Her family will receive friends at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Monday between 6:00 and 8:00pm. The funeral will assemble at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:15am prior to her 11:00am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic.
