Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Merryman, 96, of Andover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27th during the Lunar Eclipse, at Mansfield Center for Nursing in Storrs. She was born in Bath, Maine and lived in Andover for more than 70 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years, Lawrence Merryman, and her daughter Avis Trehy of Groton. She is survived by 3 daughters, Karen LaPointe of Storrs, Sheila Belanger, Valerie (and Gregory) Schmidt of Portland, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty’s life revolved around her family and her home. She loved decorating, painting and cooking family Thanksgiving dinners. She often cared for her grandchildren, providing toys, games and special snacks.

A more recent tradition was 4th of July, when family and friends would meet in Columbia to watch the parade, then go back to her house for a picnic cook out.

Betty loved vacationing at Cape Cod - beaches, sunshine, craft fairs and ice cream, complaining afterwards, with a smile on her face that she had gained 5 pounds. At home, enjoyed shopping and getting a bite to eat at Friendly's restaurant.

Upon her beloved husband's passing, Betty maintained fierce independence, and fine spirit taking impeccable care of her home and yard. It was a sad day when she could no longer drive her lawn tractor.

A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 3rd starting at 10:00 at Townsend Cemetery in Andover.
