Mary Lou Keables Obituary
Mary Lou Keables of Mansfield Center, Connecticut passed away on January 18, 2024, at Hartford Hospital. She was born on June 4, 1933, in Willimantic, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Roy and Emeline (Choquette) Keables. Mary Lou was a graduate of Windham High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree at Willimantic State Teachers College, now Eastern Connecticut State University, and her Master of Arts in Education and Sixth Year Diploma in Education from the University of Connecticut. She was a teacher and reading consultant for 37 years having been employed by the Boards of Education in West Hartford, Columbia and Windham, Connecticut. Following her retirement in 1992, Mary Lou served as an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Connecticut State University (until May 2009).
Mary Lou was predeceased by a sister, Beverly (Keables) Bogdanowicz and a niece, Nancy (Bogdanowicz) Gourley. She is survived by her niece and her husband Kathleen (Bogdanowicz) and Thomas Kopcza of Vernon, Connecticut. She leaves two great-nephews and their wives and children, Matthew and Heather Kopcza of Vernon, Connecticut, and their children Chase, Finola and Bode, and Brian and BreAnn Kopcza of Sudbury, Massachusetts, and their children Alden and Emery. Mary Lou is also survived by her longtime friend, Carol Wiggins, of Columbia, Connecticut.
Potter Funeral Home in Willimantic, Connecticut is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, St. Bartholomew Church, 736 Middle Turnpike East, Manchester, CT on Friday, February 16th, at 10 AM. Burial will follow in the New Willimantic Cemetery, Route 32, Willimantic, CT.
