Mary R. Jones, 79, of Mansfield Center, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2014 at Douglas Manor with family members at her side. Mary was born on October 1, 1934 to Orin and Sadie (Young) Blankenship in Topeka Kansas. She was one of seven children and grew up in Topeka, where she met the man of her dreams, Richard W. Jones while he was serving in the United Stated Air Force. They were married on July 24, 1954 and eventually moved to Connecticut where they lived their remaining lives raising their children. She was predeceased by her husband in December 1980. Mary was a retired State of Connecticut employee, and worked many years as a cook at UCONN in Storrs. After her retirement in 1988, she spent her time caring for and enjoying her grandchildren, and with her friends playing dice games, card games and celebrating life with each other. Mary enjoyed her sports! She was a faithful fan of the Boston Red Sox, and loyal to the New York Giants. She also enjoyed watching the UCONN women's basketball games whenever possible. Mary was a long term member of The Women of The Moose, recently reaching her 50 years of service and membership. Mary also was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Willimantic. She is survived by her children, Kenneth and his wife Beth of Eastford, Michael and his wife Sue of Storrs, and a daughter Lori Ennis and her husband Barry of Mansfield Center, along with her grandchildren Natalie Korder, Amy Jones, Heather Jones, Brian Jones and his wife Heidi, Christopher Jones, Daniel Ennis and Jonathan Ennis; her great grandchildren Celeste Bradford, Summer Bradford and Sammy Jones, and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care given to Mary by the caregivers at Douglas Manor. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday March 13, 2014 between 6:00 and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00am at St. Joseph Church 99 Jackson St. Willimantic with Rev. Roger Lamoureux officiating. Interment will follow in New Willimantic Cemetery.
