Mary Fraser Covey, 92, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2014, surrounded by family and the exceptional staff at St. Joseph Living Center. Born May 6, 1922 in Laflin PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Fraser Stead of Kilmarnock, Scotland. After living in Coventry for 9 years with her husband, William, Mary moved to Willimantic where she resided for the rest of her life. Mary was a compassionate assistant supervisor who dedicated 26 years to helping children at Mansfield Training School. Her many interests included reading, music and gardening. She was predeceased by her husband, William F. Covey and their son, PFC William F. Covey Jr. She was also predeceased by her seven siblings Charles Stead, John Stead, William Stead, Janet Stead, Catherine Bugbee, and James Stead and his twin sister, Bessie Fuller. Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Barbara Covey of Manchester, Mary Santora and her husband, Charles of Daphne AL, Charles Covey of Salt Lake City UT, Elizabeth Covey of Willimantic and Sarah Covey Fraser of Willimantic. Mary had 5 grandchildren, Christopher Tracy and his wife Anne of Daphne AL, and their children Savannah and Lauren, William Covey and his wife Ashley of North Windham, and their children Madison and Elizabeth, Hannah Mary Fraser of Willimantic, Emily Covey of Manchester, and Lilly Covey of Willimantic. Mary is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews. Mary enriched the lives of all those who knew her. A private family service will be held and arranged by Potter Funeral Home.
