Mary H. (Makuch) Cember, 97, of Columbia, widow of Joseph T. Cember, died Saturday June 15, 2002 at the Windham Hospital. She was born July 5, 1904 in Moodus, the daughter of Henry and Esther (Pituch) Makuch and was a longtime Willimantic resident prior to moving to Columbia. She and her late husband formerly owned and operated the J.M.C. Confectionary Store in Willimantic, at the corner of Main and Pine St. Mrs. Cember was a communicant of St. Columba Church, Columbia. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Adelaide and Walter Nyquist of Columbia, a sister Agnes Makuch of Moodus, 4 granddaughters; Karen Poirier of E. Haddam, Melane Larned of E. Haddam, Mary Kullgren of Bennington, N.H. and Susan Comte of Nottingham, N.H., 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am at St. Columba Church, intersection of Rte. 66 and Rte. 87, Columbia, with assembly at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. Her family suggests memorial donations to St. Columba Church, 328 Rte 66, Columbia, Ct. 06237.
