Mary Louise (Barlow) Haddad, 89, of Windham, CT, passed away on August 2, 2023. Mary Lou was the sweetest, gentlest and most loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Born on May 4, 1934 in Davenport, IA, she was the daughter of David and Loretta (Kiene) Barlow.
As the daughter of a career Army officer, travels took her to bases across the United States and Japan, ultimately settling in Connecticut 1944 when her father was assigned a position with the University of Connecticut’s ROTC program.
It was here that she met her husband, Bill, who she remained devoted to for 63 years of marriage. They shared a love of travel, visiting far corners of the world. She was especially fond of their many trips to Europe, Hawaii and anywhere they could visit family.
She was an extraordinary and generous “Grammy” to Danielle, Allyson, Mia, Kai, Ava and Will. She loved to show her support by wearing their respective college sweatshirts. Being a grandparent was one of her greatest joys.
She was a great lover of all sports, particularly the UConn Huskies, and she and Bill could often be found cheering them on both in person and from afar.
In addition to her husband Bill and grandchildren, she leaves behind her daughter Tammy Matsunami and husband Keith, her son Bill and wife Nicole, her brother Robert and wife Belle, her sister-in-law Marianne Barlow, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her siblings Marilyn, Arthur, Jean, Wayne, Patricia and David.
Mary Lou will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her spirit, her laughter, and her love will live on in the hearts of those she touched. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life, remembering the joy she brought to our lives and the love she shared with us all. Rest in peace, Grammy.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:30am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT. Burial will follow at the New Willimantic Cemetery, 1746 West Main Street, Willimantic, CT with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
