Marvin W. Kottke, 80, a retired professor of Agricultural Economics at the University of CT, Storrs, CT. died Dec. 26th, 2003 at the Windham Hospital of a sudden massive stroke. Born in Glencoe, Minnesota, April 26th, 1923, the tenth child of Lena and Adolph Kottke. Marvin graduated from the University of Minnesota with a PhD. and joined the UCONN faculty in 1954, retiring in 1987. He was a three-year veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific. He was an avid skier and a valuable research asset to the National Ski Areas Association. After fourteen years, The National Ski Areas Report was renamed the Kottke End of Season Report when he retired in 1994. Besides his wife, Elaine, of 55 years, he is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Haun, his granddaughter, Stacey Gendron and her husband, Bruce and their children, Jourdan, Allison, Trey, Emma and Natalie of Cape Cod; grandson, Chris Eldredge of Florida; daughter, Cheryl Abbiati and, husband John, of Montville and their children, Daniel and Gracie. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec 30th, 2003 at 1:30 pm at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic followed by a service at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. The burial will be in Storrs Cemetery following the service.
