Martha Louise King

Martha Louise King, 54, of Lebanon, Connecticut, died November 20, 2002, at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Martha was born August 9, 1948 in Westerly, RI. She grew up in Willington and attended public school there. She was graduated from Windham High School in 1966 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development from the University of Connecticut, followed by her Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern Connecticut State College. She worked for Windham Willimantic Child Care in Keelor Hall on the ECSU Campus for over twenty-five years. Martha will be remembered for the love and care with which she embraced her family and friends. Her supportive and open-minded nature complemented her generous spirit and her enormous capacity for unconditional love. Martha always had a special place in her heart for children, and the work she did so wonderfully for so many years is a testament to her dedication and kindness. Martha is survived by her son Stephen Maslanka of Lebanon and her daughters Allison Selleck of Lebanon and Randi Selleck of Oregon; by her parents, Robert E. and Thelma L. King of West Willington; her siblings, Bob King and Diane Chin of New Hampshire, Cathy King of Maine, Patty (King) Eaves and Walt Mayo of New Hampshire, Charlie and Bernice King of Ashford, John and Brenda King of Ashford, Mary (King) and Paul Belanger of Ashford, Thom and Shazy King of Maryland, Hazel King and Dan Robertson of Brussels, Belgium and Nan King and Tom Kelly of New Hampshire; by eighteen nieces and nephews; and by a very large extended family. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00am at St. Philip the Apostle Church, Rte 44, Ashford, with assembly at the church. Burial will follow in the Willington Hill Cemetery, Willington. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 238 W. Town St., Norwich, Ct. 06360.
