Marjorie F. Grant of Columbia died Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Born February 12, 1927 in Detroit, MI to Robert and Lorena Mae (Davis) Forner. Married to Clarence S. Grant. Graduated from MarygroveCollege where she developed a love of musical and theatrical productions. She later received a Masters degree in Education from Eastern Connecticut State College. She served as a substitute teacher in area schools and later served as a reading teacher at RHAM Junior/Senior High School until her retirement in 1990. After retirement she was one of the founding members of Columbia Crossroads. She found great joy in publishing the town magazine with her son, Barry. As a resident of Columbia since 1953, she had an enduring love of the town and participated in many organizations over the years. Marge was dedicated to improving the community and reinforced that commitment by holding office in the BeckishSeniorCenter, PTA, Fire Dept. Auxiliary, Delta Kappa Gamma National Honor Society and the Holy Name Society. Marge enjoyed travel and was passionate about her UConn Huskies basketball teams. She was pre-deceased by husband, Clarence and son David and is survived by four sons and a daughter: Stephen Grant and his wife Gretchen of Clifton Park, NY; Robert Grant and wife Jill of Norfolk, MA; Catherine Engelhardt of Toms River, NJ; Barry Grant and wife Elaine of Uncasville, CT and Philip Grant of Sheffield, VT. Marge also has 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is loved and will be greatly missed. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 20, 2015 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT 06226. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 10:00am, at St. Columba, Columbia, CT. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Beckish Senior Center, 188 Route 66, Columbia, CT 06237.
