Marjorie Dora (Pilcher) Carpenter, 98, passed away on October 12, 2014 at her home in Columbia. She was born in Stamford, Connecticut on December 13, 1915 to the late Horace R. Pilcher and Daisy E. Pilcher. She was predeceased by her sister Daisy M. Pilcher. She was the beloved wife of the late John W. Carpenter and mother of the late Gai Carpenter. Marjorie graduated from Windham High School in June of 1933 then went on to the State Normal School in Willimantic, CT for a teacher's degree. She taught children from 1st grade thru 5th grade in a one room schoolhouse in Willington, CT. Marjorie attended the Baptist Church on Willington Hill Road where she met John. They were married on August 2, 1941. John, Marjorie and Gai loved to travel. They lived in Columbia, CT for many years but her heart always belonged to Willington. Marjorie wished to express her appreciation to her lifelong friend Wayne Hawthorne for always being there to take care of John and herself for so many years, Debbie who cooked for them and was a good friend in their final years, and caregivers Penny, Ruth and Rebecca and other staff from Home Instead Senior Care for all the love, support and help in her time of need. She found peace and joy in nature and the everyday pleasures of life. A grave site service will be held at Willington Hills Cemetery on November 1, 2014 at 10:00 A.M.
