Marion Pierpont Brown

Marion (Pierpont) Brown of Storrs, widow of Professor Benjamin A. Brown, died Thursday, November 10, 2005 at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation after a long illness. She was born April 23, 1907 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Arthur J. and Beatrice (Garrigus) Pierpont. She grew up on the family farm in Waterbury, graduated from Crosby High School and Connecticut College in New London, Class of 1928, and Western Reserve University where she received degrees in social work. She worked at various positions in New York City and Ohio with the American Red Cross; in Texas for the Travelers Aid Society and worked for U.N.R.R.A. in Germany from 1945 to 1947. After the war she established and managed the Putt Meadow Motor Court in Waterbury. Upon moving to Storrs in 1962 she worked for a social service agency in Putnam until her retirement. She was past president of Altrusa Club of Waterbury and served on the Northeast CT Alcohol Council Inc. Her favorite pastimes were her flower beds, traveling, golf and she was an enthusiastic Bridge player. She was the last living charter member of the Mill Plain Union Church in Waterbury and was a member of the Storrs Congregational Church. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Hazel P. Jacoby and Helen P. Derby. She is survived by 2 stepsons, Richard A. Brown of Storrs and Robert E. Brown of Bozeman, MT, 6 grandchildren and numerous cousins. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. Donations in her memory may be made to the Mill Plain Union Church, 242 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury, CT 06705, the Storrs Congregational Church, 2 North Eagleville Rd. Storrs, CT 06268 or the Alzheimer s Association 96 Oak St., Hartford, CT 06106.
