Marilyn Whaley

Marilyn Whaley, 84, of South Windham, wife of the late Lyndon Briggs and Clifton Whaley, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born October 1, 1929 in Chicopee, MA, the daughter of Archibald and Elizabeth (Henry) Curry. Marilyn taught school at St. Mary School in Willimantic and then for over 25 years at Franklin Elementary School. At the Franklin school she was known for her many projects in the social studies program including a t rip to the U.S.S.R. to study school programs there. Upon her retirement she moved to Hyannis, MA for 20 years before returning to South Windham. While in Hyannis, she made many Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls which she donated to the local hospital for sick children. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Flynn of South Windham, a son, Clifton Whaley of Cape Cod, two brothers, David Curry of San Jose, CA and the reverend Norval Curry of MN, 6 grandchildren, John LaBonte and Amy Dunstan, Adam Bolt, Laine Rebecca Bolt and Lindsay Bolt and Sherry Whaley and four great grandchildren, Madison, Ryan, Owen and Andrew. She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Bolt, a grandson, Clinton Whaley, a sister and a brother. Funeral services will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Franklin Elementary School Social Studies Program. Checks may be made to the Town of Franklin with a note on the memo line for its use and sent to Franklin Town Hall, 7 Meeting House Hill Road, Franklin, CT 06254.
