Marie "Mary" Offerman

Marie "Mary" Offerman, 85, of Coventry, wife of Elmer Offerman, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born in Tjimahi, Indonesia on January 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Schey) Van Hartingsveld. She emigrated to the US in 1959 with her family of three children and late husband, Emil Artz, settling in the South/East Windsor area. Mary completed nursing school and was a registered nurse in Medan, Indonesia for several years, including during the Japanese occupation. Before her retirement, she was employed at Mosey's Corned Beef in Bloomfield. She will be remembered as a kind and gentle person who loved her family and close friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and had a special love for animals. Mary is also predeceased by her brother, William. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Barbara Artz Hansen and partner, Gregory Ouellette, of Coventry; son and daughter in law, Robert and Cathy Artz of Lakeside Oregon and son and daughter in law, Konstant and Tina Artz of San Antonio, Texas. Mary will be especially missed by her husband, Elmer Offerman, whom she married in 1994. They had spent 18 years doing things that retired couples enjoy, including travel, dining out at favorite restaurants, going for walks together and spending time with their families. Mary especially enjoyed their vacations together, including Hawaii, the Great Lakes, Canada, a cruise to Alaska and attending Elmer's professional society annual meetings in various locations around the country. Mary also is survived by her loving grandchildren, Brett Hansen of Eugene, Oregon, Taylor Hansen of Coventry, CT, Kelly Artz of Los Angeles, California, Kristofer Artz of Denver, Colorado and Kyleen Artz Lane of Fruita, Colorado. She will also be missed by Elmer's grandson, Jeffery Hunter. Her family would like to thank all the staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation and Hospice of Eastern Connecticut for all the wonderful care they gave to Mary. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January, 12th 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
