Maida L. Root

Maida L. (Hopkins) Root, 93, formerly of Canton, widow of Howard E. Root, died Tuesday April 4, 2006 at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, Brooklyn. She was born Sept. 3, 1912 in Bloomfield, the daughter of Pleaman W. and Louise (Cadwell) Hopkins. She and her late husband were longtime members of the First Congregational Church of Canton Center and its Primer Timers Group. She is survived by a son Howard Root Jr. of E. Granby, a daughter and son in law, Louise and Philip Russell of Hampton, 3 grandchildren, John Russell and his wife Catherine, Vaughn Russell and his wife Donna, Gayle LaFlamme and her husband Carl; and 3 great grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Hartford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Maida s name are suggested to the Music Fund of First Congregational Church of Canton Center, P.O. Box 133, Canton Center, CT. 06020.
