Madelyn (Avery) Eremita, 84, of W. Hartford, formerly of Mansfield, widow of Michael L. Eremita, died Sunday July 13, 2003 at the Hartford Hospital. She was born Feb. 11, 1919 in Windham the daughter of Harry and Minnie (Kilburn) Avery. Madelyn had retired as the Town Clerk of the Town of Mansfield after serving in that capacity for many years. She then served on the Town Council for several terms. Madelyn was an active member of the Mansfield Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and was a volunteer at the West Hartford Elementary School Library. An avid artist, she enjoyed taking art classes at the W. Hartford Senior Center and was a voracious reader. Earlier in her life, Madelyn was an aircraft pilot, an accomplishment that she was very proud of. She is survived by a son Michael and his wife Cheryl of Bolton, 2 daughters; Melanie Richard and her husband Bob of W. Hartford, and Miniver E. Burgert of Santa Rosa, CA., 6 grandchildren; Michael and Aimee Eremita, Ashley and Heather Richard and Avery and Chelsea Burgert and 2 nephews. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.
