WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - Lucy Hamilton Lincoln, 65, of Wesley Street, went home to her reward on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014. Despite an aggressive illness, she never lost faith that the Lord would heal her, and now he has. She was born in Hartford, Conn., the youngest child of Virginia H. Lincoln and Spencer L. Lincoln, and spent her life pursuing truth and beauty. She graduated from Dana Hall School for Girls, Wellesley, Mass., where she was a dancer. She brought up two children and raised sheep on an organic farm in Elmira, Oregon, while attending the University of Oregon and Northwest Christian College to study art, Bible and anthropology, graduating in 1982. In Oregon, Lucy dedicated her life to following the Lord. After moving to Maine to care for her mother, she taught art at Bethel Christian Academy in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Ever an adventurer, Lucy earned her private pilot's license and moved with her children to Darwin, Australia, where she served as a graphic artist with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Lucy later graduated from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, So. Hamilton, Mass., with a master's of divinity degree and a focus on missions. For two decades, Lucy studied, lived and ministered in Russia and Israel, travelling widely. She was conversant in Russian and Modern Hebrew and literate in Biblical Hebrew and Greek, spending sixteen years translating ancient scriptures into a little-known language. She also published articles on Bible translation and interpretation. Lucy was passionate about supporting women in ministry and was a licensed minister with the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference. She was also a member of Evangel Bible Translators and the First Congregational Church of Windham. With help from friends, Lucy renovated a small cottage at the Willimantic Camp Meeting Association. She loved to garden, dance, host friends, play the dulcimer, create art, share her faith and study scripture while completing her translation work with support from churches and friends. She is survived by brothers, Spencer Lincoln, of Brooklin, Maine, and John Lincoln, of El Granada, Calif., and their families; son Sunny Day Morgan and his wife, Amanda, of Anahola, Hawaii; daughter Meadow Rue Merrill and her husband, Dana, of Bath, Maine; grandchildren: Judah, Gabriel, Lydia, Asher, Myla, River and Ezra- all of whom she dearly loved. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ruth, with whom she now dances in heaven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Evangel Bible Translators, Int'l, P.O. Box 669, Rockwall, TX 75087-0669, to the "J.O.I. project" to help complete Lucy's work. A celebration of her life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Windham 4 Windham Center Road, Windham Center 06280 at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2104 followed by refreshments in the church fellowship hall.
