Louise Oliver

HAMPTON, CT - LOUISE (JARVIS) OLIVER, 79, passed away peacefully on February 14th, due to complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Born in Chillicothe, Texas, she was the seventh of nine children of George Henry and Lillah (Moore) Jarvis. Growing up in and around Lawton, Oklahoma, Louise early on recognized the value of education, and considered it both her profession and personal mission. She was a graduate of the Oklahoma College for Women, and received her Masters of Library Science at the University of Rhode Island. She taught in schools in Virginia and Connecticut, culminating her career at Plainfield High School as librarian and administrator. Louise spent many years with the Hampton Democratic Town Committee, serving as Librarian and Director of the Fletcher Memorial Library, and in many capacities at the Hampton Congregational Church. Louise was a dynamic individual, and spent much of her life in service to others, being honored as Hampton's Citizen of the Year in 2002. Many witnessed and personally experienced her graciousness as a one-person social service organization never expecting anything in return except for others to "pay it forward." Louise was predeceased by her husband, James Nesmith Oliver, Jr., brothers Harley Jarvis and Henry Jarvis, and sisters, Janet Willis and Georgia Lowrey. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise Oliver, step-children James Oliver III and Kimberly Oliver, grandchildren James Oliver IV and wife Dora Kalashnikova, Elizabeth Dupont-Oliver, and Jamie Dupont-Oliver, sister Virginia Dungan and husband James of Bethel Community (Lawton), Oklahoma brother Harold Jarvis and wife, Wyvonne, of Longview Texas, many nieces and nephews, dear friends, and her beloved canine companions, Ollie and Annie. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. A public celebration of her life will be held in April, at a date to be announced, at the Hampton Congregational Church.
