Loris Ruth Masterton (maiden name Matthys), a longtime resident of Storrs, passed away on November 19th, 2025, at 102 years of age. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 20th, 1923, and grew up there. She graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana, where met and married William Lewis Masterton (Bill) in 1953. They moved to Storrs in 1955, where Bill was a Chemistry Professor at the University of Connecticut. Loris was predeceased by infant daughter Mary Ruth Masterton in 1954 and husband Bill in 2005. She is survived by sons Fred Masterton (Peggy) and Pete Masterton (Ilona), grandchildren Meghan Myers (Rich), Jennifer Masterton (Alex), Jessica Masterton (Matt) and Kevin Masterton. She also had four great grandchildren, Silas and Calvin Myers as well as William and Brianna Masterton.
Loris was active in First Church of Christ Mansfield Center as well as the League of Women Voters and was also an avid bridge player. She studied at the University of Connecticut, where she received a master's degree in nutrition. She was a fighter for justice and the downtrodden, which was reflected in her contributions and advocacy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Church of Christ Mansfield Center at 549 Storrs Rd Mansfield Center 06250 or the Windham Area Interfaith Ministries (WAIM) at 866 Main St Willimantic 06226. A memorial service will be held in the spring at the First Church of Christ.
