Loretto (Paulhus) Kuchinsky (May 24, 1925 - August 5, 2011) a resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Friday morning at Mansfield Center For Nursing and Rehabilitation in Storrs. She was born and raised in Willimantic, and graduated from Windham High School. She was a 4th grade teacher at St. Mary Catholic School in Willimantic, and later went on to pursue a lengthy career at Pratt and Whitney where she made many lifelong friends. After retirement, Loretto spent her time volunteering for Windham Hospital. Loretto was the youngest of ten children born to the late Joseph and Marie Paulhus. She was predeceased by her brothers Louis, Roger, Norman, Ernest, Robert, George and Paul, sister Evelyn, and son Kerry Kuchinsky. She is survived by her sister Gertrude Kozen of Mansfield, her son Kim Kuchinsky of Columbia and her granddaughter Nicole Kuchinsky also of Columbia. She also leaves behind her friend and companion of many years, Albert Barron of Columbia, as well as her beloved Maltese Bay-bee, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Loretto lived a full and happy life and was very grateful for everything she had. She has inspired many with her strength, wit, and will to live. Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for their care, compassion and kindness to her throughout her stay at the facility. Friends and family are encouraged to attend her services. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday August 9th between 6:00pm and 8:00pm at Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, Valley St., Willimantic on Wednesday August 10th at 10:00am with assembly at the church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham.The family asks that in place of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society in honor of Loretto's adornment towards animals.
