Linda Gatchek Obituary
Linda M. Gatchek, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024, in Colchester, Connecticut, due to complications from C.O.P.D. Born on June 8, 1943, in Canada, Linda's warmth and vivacity brought light and laughter to all who knew her throughout her 80 years of life.

Linda's journey began in the halls of Fitch High School, where she cultivated a foundation of knowledge and friendship. Her career was marked by a profound dedication to the safety and well-being of children as she served her community first as a school bus driver and then as a school bus supervisor. Linda's heroism shone brightly when she was recognized with an award for saving a student on the bus, an act that exemplified her courage and quick thinking.

The heart of Linda's world was her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Gatchek, and her children, Kenneth Gatchek Jr. and Deanna Kokoszka. Linda's legacy continues through her children: Lisa Gatchek, Mary Maheu and her husband Chris, Deborah Sokolski and her husband Hugh, and Patti Marchand and her husband Ken. Each of them carries forward the lessons of love and resilience that Linda instilled in them.

Linda's zest for life was evident in her many interests. She was an avid gardener, finding joy in the vibrant blooms. Her hands were rarely still, as she created beautiful crocheted pieces that became treasured gifts for those she loved. Linda's competitive spirit came alive during card games, and she was known for her love of playing the slots, always hoping for that next big win.

Above all, Linda relished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her eyes sparkled with pride at each milestone and achievement.  Her funny anecdotes, loving embraces, and courageous spirit will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Memorial donations may be made to the Women’s Center of Southeastern Connecticut, 16 Jay St., New London, CT 06320.
