Lillian Bender

Lillian (Krause) Bender, 96, of Lebanon, wife of the late Arnold Bender, died Friday Aug. 5, 2005,at home surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 19, 1908 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth (Jung) Krause and resided in Lebanon for most of her life. Lily and her late husband Arnold established Bender s Oil Service and Gas Station in Lebanon. She had been previously employed at the American Thread Co. and the Electro-Motive Manufacturing Co. Lily was a lifelong member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lebanon and had been president of the Ladies Guild and also taught Sunday School. She was a 4-H Leader, charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Dept., former president of the 60+ Bus Service, member of the Windham Hospital Auxiliary, served on the board of the McSweeney Senior Center and was a member of the Lebanon Seniors. Lily was an avid card player with the Lebanon Junior Seniors Setback Group and was well known in Lebanon as an avid Yankees fan. She was predeceased by her daughter and son in law, Elizabeth (Bender) Howard and Robert Howard of Orange Park, FL. She is survived by 4 daughters, Dorothy (Bender) Stevens of Lebanon, Barbara (Bender) Manning and her husband Charles of Mohawk, N.Y., Marion (Bender) Russo and her husband Roland of Lebanon and Linda (Bender) Russo and her husband Robert of Lebanon; 2 brothers, Arnold Krause and Harold Krause of Lebanon, 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Her family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Monday between 5:00 and 8:00pm. Her funeral service will be held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Village Hill Rd., Lebanon on Tuesday at 2:00pm with the Rev. Scott Schuett officiating.
