Lewis G. McDaniel, 72, of Willimantic, husband of Charlotte (Elias) McDaniel, died Saturday, September 25, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was born June 17, 1932 in Amherst, VA, the son of Harry and Grace (Gilbert) McDaniel and had lived in Willimantic more than 50 years. As a young man he was a motorcycle enthusiast and racer. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After leaving the Navy he was employed for many years on a research vessel for N.O.A.A. Lewis was a member of James J. Shea Post #19 American Legion and Gold Star Post #1724 V.F.W. In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul and Jessie McDaniel of Windham, Charles McDaniel of Willimantic, 2 grandsons, Shayne and Shawn, a sister, Frances Glass of Lynchburg, VA, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte. 195, Willimantic. Burial with military honors will follow in the Windham Center Cemetery. His family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor?s choice. Please visit
