Leroy D. Spencer, 74, of Chaplin, husband of Beatrice Belle (Clark) Spencer, died Monday, September 17, 2001 in Willimantic. He was born November 10, 1926 in Sarasota, FL, the son of the late Leroy and Anna (Paramour) Spencer Sr. and had lived in Chaplin since 1964. He was an Army paratroop veteran of World War II, a member of VFW Gold Star Post #1724, a member of the Fifth Connecticut Volunteers, a Civil War re-enactment group, and a private pilot. Mr. Spencer served as a member of the UCONN Police Department for many years prior to his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed sailing and sculpting as hobbies. In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 children, Clark Spencer and his wife Judith of Chaplin, Elizabeth Constant of Willimantic, Carol Kroll of Chaplin, 3 grandchildren, Joshua Perreault, Lisa Perreault and Trine Kroll, a great granddaughter, Faith Carabino. He was predeceased by a son, David Spencer. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Chaplin Congregational Church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic (potterfh.com) on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson s Foundation Inc.
