Leonard W. Couch, 88, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday (March 10, 2012). Leonard was born November 6, 1923 in North Dorset, Vermont. He was a Staff Sergeant during WWII and trained as a Harley mechanic at the beginning of the war. He later volunteered for the 34th Infantry Division , 168th Infantry Regiment, Company I in Northern Africa and Italy. After the war, Leonard was in the Army Reserves at Fort Drum in New York, training new recruits in Mortar Operations. Leonard was a jack-of-all-trades, yet his main vocation was in plumbing. He worked for Electric Boat for 35 years as a pipe fitter and inspector. He became a proud member of the Local 777 Pipefitters Union. Leonard loved his family and his country. In his later years, his favorite hobby was woodworking. He made bookshelves and little toys for his grandchildren. Leonard is joining his late wife Laura Ellen Couch (Jowett) and his late son Leonard "Chipper" Couch, "a chip off the old block". He leaves his children and their spouses, Michael Couch and his wife Louise of Lebanon, Thomas Couch and his wife Deborah of Lebanon, Laura E. Ryder and her husband James of Middleton, NH, Stephen Couch of Lebanon, Tracy Hurst of Mansfield, and Dawn Sparks of Willimantic; as well as twenty-one grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. Services will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 30 Church St, Hebron on Saturday, March 17th at 1:00 pm. Burial to follow in the cemetery behind the Church.
