Leonard "Mel" Frank Blossick, 78, of Mansfield, passed from complications of diabetes and kidney failure at Windham Hospital on Nov, 29, 2012. He was born October 8, 1934 in Cutchogue, NY, son of the late John and Stella Blossick and lived in Willimantic and Mansfield Center area most all his life. He was a graduate of Windham High School Class of 1953 and graduated from Windham Technical School in 1958 with a degree in architectural drafting .Mel served in US Army and was stationed in Okinawa Japan. He was a Past President of Pulaski American Citizens Club, member of the Willimantic Elks Lodge #1311, a 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus and a member of "Roys Boys". He played baseball, darts and golf, loved the NY Mets & NY Giants and vacationing on Cape Cod. He was a talented artist, drawing and painting pictures and designing homes. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and even soloed at Windham Airport when taking flying lessons. He worked at UCONN & ECSU as an architectural draftsman and retired from State of CT. Mel was a co-owner of Shell Chateau Restaurant with his wife Angela. They started the CT Dart Leagues(Northern and Eastern) and held the first Colonial Open dart tournament at the Shell Chateau that continued for many years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Angela (Sledjeski) Blossick , children, John W. Blossick and Mariann Blossick, sister Linda Blossick Parker, grandchildren, John L. Blossick and Jessica Alspaugh, great granddaughter Sarah Alspaugh and many other relatives and friends. His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday Dec. 2nd between 2:00pm and 4:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
