Lenora "Lee" Hicks

Lenora (Cunningham) Hicks February 1, 1920 - July 5, 2014. Lee died peacefully holding the hand of her beloved husband of 70 years Don Hicks. Lee was born in Pearsall, Texas to Fannie Bell Cunningham and Harvey Carroll Cunningham, the oldest of 7 children. She met Donald Hicks and they married on May 21, 1944 in Kingsville, Texas. They lived in Chaplin for over 60 years. During that time she served as the US Postmaster of Chaplin for 20 years, where she was referred to as "Grandma Lee" by many young children in town. She also served as the Sunday School Superintendent of the Chaplin Congregational Church for many years. Lee was referenced by those who knew her as being one of the kindest persons they knew. She always took time to listen to people's stories and she adored children. She was predeceased by her parents, one brother, H.C. "Bud" Cunningham, and her brothers-in-law James Lummus and Robert Woolsey and sisters-in-law Roma Naumec and Claire Hicks. She is survived by her children Donna Perez-Mera and her husband German, Jan Harris and her husband Mel, Martin Hicks and his wife Susan and Gerry Hanrahan and her husband Patrick. She is also survived by her grandchildren Robert Hicks, Jennifer Hicks, Darrel Hanrahan and his wife Tara and Sean Hanrahan; 2 great grandchildren Preston and Haley Hanrahan; her siblings, Geraldine Lummus, W.B. "Pete" Cunningham and his wife Rae, William Cunningham and his wife Joyce, Phillip Cunningham and his wife Jean, and Barbara Woolsey, her brothers-in-law Clifford Hicks and Harry Naumec, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. There will be a gathering of family and friends held at the Chaplin Senior Center on Saturday July 19th at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to The Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements through Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic.
