L. Rhoda Dyjak MANSFIELD CENTER - L. Rhoda Dyjak, 95, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 at Saint Joseph Living Center with her daughter and granddaughter Felicia by her side. She was born September 11, 1918, daughter of Harry P. and Lena May (Lyon) Atwood. Rhoda worked for the State of Connecticut for 29 years at the UConn Bookstore. Rhoda was a lifelong resident of Mansfield Center. She loved her family and had many friends with whom she shared her stories and memories of Mansfield's history. Rhoda was a proud independent woman who lived life to the fullest. She loved working in her many gardens and caring for her home in Mansfield Hollow. She was also an avid UConn Women's Basketball fan. She is survived by her children, Robert Dyjak and his wife Mary Ellen of Mansfield Center, and Janet Meikle and her late husband David G. Meikle of Mansfield Center, and recently lost her son Michael Paul Dyjak of Staunton, Va., who is survived by his wife Elisabeth (Willey) Dyjak. Two sisters, Audrey Bruce and Althea Atwood, also predeceased Rhoda. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Shelley (Dyjak) and her husband Charlie Hilton of Bolton, Cindi Dyjak of Willimantic, Christine Meikle and her husband Stephen Katz of Mansfield Center, David Scott Meikle and his wife Angela of East Haven, Felicia Meikle and her husband Craig Schamback of Scotland, Rachel Meikle of Ashford and Merry Meikle of Mansfield, Laura (Dyjak) and her husband Sean Ellia of South Hadley, Mass., Charlotte (Dyjak) and her husband Fernando Bendfeldt of Staunton, Va. Rhoda looked forward each day to a telephone call from her great grandson Lucas Thibault of Long Beach, Miss., and visits from her great grandson Mason Scott Meikle. Please visit
