Lawrence "Larry" Barnard Stadler, 88, died Sunday June 9, 2002 at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born February 14, 1914 in Los Angeles, California, a son of John and Minnie (Allyn) Stadler. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Althea Davis of Franklin, his son John and wife Sandra of Tulsa, OK, and grandchildren Wendianne, Rebecca and David and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter Christine McCarthy and husband Robert of Troy, New York and grandchildren Jane, Peter Lawrence and Laura. He was educated at the University of Southern California, the University of California/Berkley and Yale University Graduate School in the field of public health. Most of his professional life was spent in the Midwest in Rochester, MN, Cleveland, OH and Chicago, IL. At the time of his retirement in 1979 he was Associate Director of the Chicago Heart Association. In 1979, he and his wife retired in Mansfield. He became involved in community affairs and served on several town committees, notably as chairman of the Kirby Mill Committee which resulted in the mill becoming an attractive business asset to the town of Mansfield. He and his wife traveled widely in the U.S. and Canada in their motor home and enjoyed many Elderhostel trips to foreign countries. He was an active member of the Franklin Congregational Church the Mansfield Historical Society, the Franklin Historical Society and the Mansfield Community Club. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Franklin Congregational Church on Meetinghouse Hill, followed by burial in the Plains Cemetery, Franklin.
