Lawrence Russell Geissler

July 18, 1917 — March 9, 2005

Lawrence Russell Geissler Sr., 87 of Storrs, beloved husband, father and grandfather, husband of Elizabeth (Schmohl) Geissler passed away at the Mansfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on March 9, 2005. Larry was born July 18th 1917 in Pomfret CT the son of Paul and Lottie (Copeland) Geissler. In 1927 the family moved to Storrs CT. He graduated from Windham High School where he played football for four years. After his service time he played semi-pro football for a Stafford Springs team. He was predeceased by 5 brothers and 7 sisters. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp., during WWII and saw most of the South Pacific as a member of the 3rd Amtrac Battalion. Larry married Elizabeth J. Schmohl on June 15, 1946 and was employed by the State of Connecticut for 35 years. Larry was a member of the Masons Uriel Lodge #24 A.F. & A.M. for 55 years and was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield. Larry is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth J. Geissler and five children, Jean and her husband Richard Ostrander, Lawrence Geissler Jr. and his wife Janet, Bonnie and her husband David Buscaglia, Susan and her husband Peter Fowler, John his wife Patricia Geissler and 11 grandchildren, Steven, Scott, Michael, Jeffery Ostrander, Kevin and Peter Geissler, James and Karen Buscaglia, Isaac Fowler, Kristin and Alyssa Geissler. There will be a memorial service held at the First Baptist Church of Mansfield at 2:00pm Saturday. Burial with military honors will be private in the Storrs Cemetery . There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Lawrence R. Geissler Sr. Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church of Mansfield, 945 Storrs Rd., Storrs, CT 06268, The Windham Area Interfaith Ministry, P.O.
