Lawrence I. Edwards Sr., 70, of Lebanon, formerly of Windham, husband of Betty Jean (Bryant) Edwards, died Monday July 4, 2005 in Windham. He was born January 21, 1935 in Erwin, TN, the son of the late William and Mae (Nelson) Edwards and had lived in Windham since 1947, moving to Lebanon last year. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and prior to his retirement in 1993, employed for many years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. After his retirement he enjoyed extensive travels with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Edwards was a member and trustee of the First Congregational Church of Windham, past president of the Windham Whirlers Club, a member of the Windham Fish & Game Club and a volunteer for the Windham Youth Organization, coaching girl s softball teams for many years. He was an avid sports fan, who loved football and the Boston Red Sox as well as the UConn men and women s basketball teams. In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Kenneth Olszta of Lebanon, 3 grandchildren who will miss being spoiled by their Poppy , Thayer and Emily Olszta and Heather Setterberg, his great grandson, James Crystal, a brother, Theodore Edwards of Houston, TX and a sister, Joyce Seammons of Cromwell. He was predeceased by a son, Larry Edwards Jr. in 1981, 4 sisters, Kathleen, Viola, Daisy and Edith and 3 brothers, Luther, Herman and Alfred. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Rte. 195, Willimantic on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, Rte. 14 at Rte. 203, Windham Center.
