Lawrence Devine Obituary
Lawrence “Larry” Edward Devine, of West Hartford, passed suddenly from this life at St. Francis Hospital on April 9, 2023, Easter morning.  Larry was born on February 9, 1943 in Norwich, CT, the son of the late Thomas and Lena (Butler) Devine.

Larry lived most of his adult life in the Hartford area. Shortly after high school graduation, Larry served in the US Army for four years and graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 1974 with a degree in psychology. He worked with special needs children after graduation, and while his career later took an unexpected turn, his training yet served him well when he managed The Keg restaurant and bar in Hartford for decades!

Beloved by all who knew him, Larry was a highly active man throughout his life. From early childhood he displayed a love of the outdoors and of competitive sports, with baseball and basketball as particular loves. Larry bled UConn Husky blue and white, traveling to a number of “Final Four” tournaments to watch his guys win national championships. He was also a lifelong avid fan of the Red Sox. Larry also loved hiking and cycling, in which he also excelled; 50-mile cycling rides were common for him even very late in life.

Larry was highly intelligent and well-read, staying informed on current events and expanding his horizons with continual learning. He was a selfless man, with great compassion for the needs of others, and never had a negative word for anyone. Larry also had a great sense of humor; his trademark, mischievous “Larry grin” will always be remembered.

Larry leaves behind his loving family: two brothers, Glenn Devine and his wife Jackie of South Windham, and Wayne Devine of Willimantic;  sister Beverly Norris and her husband Rick of Camden, Maine; niece, Jennichelle Oatman and her husband Rob and their three children, Harrison, Patrick and Amelia, all of Hebron, CT, and nephew Justin Devine and his wife Threasa, and children Tristin and Addison, all of Parrish, Florida.

A private family service will be held at Windham Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held in early May, to which all are welcome. Please contact the family via email at: annienorris@me.com for details.
