Laurent J.E. Major, 66, of Carolyn Lane, North Windham, husband of Nancy (Berry) Major, died Wednesday Nov. 14, 2001 at the Windham Hospital. He was born Aug. 18, 1935 in Newport, VT. the son of Norman and Marie (Boutin) Major. He was a former Coventry resident prior to moving to Manchester for 38 years and then to N. Windham 3 years ago. Mr. Major had been employed by Pratt & Whitney in E. Hartford for 38 years, retiring in 1991. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran, serving in Korea for a short time and was then sent to Germany where he served in the 3rd Armored Division from 1954 to 1957. Mr. Major was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council, the James J. Shea Post #19 American Legion and was a life member of both the Willimantic Elks Lodge and the Army & Navy Club in Manchester. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters and sons in law; Cynthia and Douglas Nowak of Windham and Mary Jane and Desmond Belske of N. Windham, a son and daughter in law Bruce and Dottie Major of Manchester, 2 brothers Ronald Major of Goshen, IN., and Gerald Major of N. Windham, 3 sisters; Leonie Major of Dayton, Wyoming, Pierrette Bryant of Etna, ME., and Suzanne Cox of Willimantic, 4 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, a step grandson, a step granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers Norman Jr., Robert and Roy. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195) Willimantic on Saturday from 8:30am to 10:00am prior to the procession to his 10:30am Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial donations to the American Diabetes Assoc., 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, Ct. 06450 or to St. Joseph Church Renovation Fund, 99 Jackson St. Willimantic,Ct. 06226.
