Kevin Michael Tubridy of Pomfret, CT, formerly of Mansfield, CT left his earthly paradise humorously called The Ranch, for his place in heaven on October 15, 2025. He was born in Willimantic, CT on February 19, 1945, the son of Joseph and Dorothy Tubridy. After many fun-filled experiences at preparatory schools around New England, Kevin ultimately graduated from Windham High School and Providence College.
Although Kevin began his working career at Tubridy's, a women’s wear store founded by his grandparents in the early 1900s, then run by his parents in Willimantic, he had other aspirations. He had always been interested in architecture, much to his father’s dismay, and he began a small business designing projects, teaching himself and learning along the way. He quickly became a brilliant local planner and concept designer who held both himself, his employees, and builders to the highest of standards, imagining and creating unique and innovative building designs. Kevin wore many hats, from running Tubridy’s and founding his design firm, New England Design, Inc., which had grown substantially over the years. His greatest design pride was his firm’s extensive building design work with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Foxwoods Resort and Casino. He began there by first designing the original bingo hall and ended up some eleven years later designing the signature colorful grand hotel, which is still used in Foxwoods ads today. Among other commercial properties Kevin designed were Eastern Connecticut State University’s Child and Family Development Center, numerous buildings at the Pomfret and Rectory Schools, East Brook Mall’s several evolutions, Ledgebrook Condominiums, and many gorgeous homes in Groton Long Point, CT, literally changing the overall beauty of the area. Kevin surrounded himself with supremely talented, loyal, and creative architects, landscape designers, builders, tradespersons, artists, and super special staff members who were the glue to it all. Kevin was also proud to serve on several Boards of Trustees, including Natchaug Hospital, Pomfret School, and The Rectory Schools.
After living in Mansfield for many years, Kevin and Betsy, his wife of 49 years, built their dream home in Pomfret. Over the past two decades, they have enjoyed gorgeous sunsets, their many dogs, gardens, and beautiful landscaping.
Kevin leaves behind his wife Betsy (Purves), his 4 children Sean (Becky) of St. Paul, MN, Erin Gates (Andrew) of Wellesley, MA, Michael (Summer) of Charlotte, NC, and Connor or Evergreen, CO. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren - Henry and Emma Gates, Jackson Tubridy, and William and Gus Tubridy. He leaves many nieces and nephews and a bazillion dear friends and acquaintances too numerous to list here.
Kevin requested no service, but a celebration of life will be held at the family’s convenience. Donations may be sent to Our Companions Animal Rescue, 34 Sanrico Drive C. Manchester, CT 06042, a non-profit organization providing adoption opportunities and programs to promote animal care.
