Kevin G. Lamontagne, 58, of Canterbury, CT passed away on June 29, 2013 at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Kevin was born in Lewiston, Maine on March 23, 1955, and was the son of Roland G. Lamontagne (deceased) and Anita Peterson of Colchester, Connecticut. Kevin graduated from Norwich Free Academy, class of 1973, and lived most of his life in the Windham/Norwich area. Kevin was a self-employed builder with extraordinary talent and artistic ability, and the beauty of his work will live on in his absence. Kevin was profoundly concerned with the natural environment and stringent use of natural resources, which was beautifully reflected in each of his projects. His greatest creation was his home in Canterbury, which he designed and built himself, largely from reclaimed and salvaged local materials. Kevin was a brilliant lifelong learner who was passionate in all of his pursuits. Kevin was involved in many years of activism with the Northeast Connecticut Coalition for Peace & Justice, and volunteer work as a citizen scientist with the Connecticut Audubon Society, and with the Willimantic Food Co-op. He was an avid reader of political, social, educational and natural history books. This developed in him the ability to have long thoughtful discussions on topics that he was especially passionate about, mainly pro-peace initiatives, healthcare issues and radical political changes needed to improve the lives of all human beings. Kevin cared very deeply about people and had many friends that spanned generational divides. Kevin never let a day go by without recognizing how incredibly privileged he was to be able to enjoy the beauty of nature that he was surrounded by. He was a keen outdoorsman and camper, as well as a serious road tripper who was able to take several cross-country trips in his lifetime as well as international travel. Kevin also enjoyed hiking, gardening, constantly tinkering with his various projects and inventions, and holding barn parties (which usually included rousing games of deflecto darts). Kevin had a generous heart, and a quiet but wicked sense of humor that will be missed by all of his friends and family. Kevin is survived by and is dearly missed by his best friend and wife, Dawn Davis; his family David and Debbie Lamontagne of Sterling, VA, Peter Lamontagne of Taftville and Paul Lamontagne of Canterbury, Carol and Art Zubrowski of Lisbon; nieces Danielle Lamontagne Lyons and her husband Daniel Lyons of Sterling, VA and Sarah Zubrowski Hollenbeck and her husband Peter Hollenbeck of Collinsvile; nephew Adam Zubrowski of Lisbon; and three step-daughters, Heather and Kelly Holden of Windham and Julie Holden and her husband Sean Passan of Los Angeles, CA. A memorial gathering will be held at Kevin and Dawn's home in Canterbury, CT on July 5th, 2013 from 4 - 8pm. Email
