Kevin Thomas Kavanagh, 66, of Hampton, CT passed away at St. Joseph's Living Center in Windham, CT on April 13, 2015 after a battle with Brain Cancer. Kevin was born on November 6, 1948 in New Haven, Ct son to the late Beatrice (Lockery) Kavanagh and Thomas Kavanagh. He is survived by his loving daughter, Bevin (Jolly) Kavanagh of Willimantic, CT and grandchildren, Ava and Antonio; his sister, Mary Ellen Kavanagh of Hampton; his sister in law, Claire Kavanagh of Madison, Ct; his beloved cousin Caryl Sue Johnson of MD; Jeanne Kavanagh of Hampton; Rachel Croteau of Hampton; many cousins, in laws, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Daniel Kavanagh. Kevin had a large community of close family but also cherished longtime friends from all walks of life too numerous to state. He attended Sacred Heart School in New Haven, Notre Dame High School in West Haven, Southern Connecticut State University, Colorado State University at Fort Collins and UCONN (Storrs). His field of expertise was in the Animal Sciences which began at Yale University Division of Animal Sciences and completed in Management of Animal Care Services at UCONN in Storrs after 40 plus years. He retired in August 2014. Kevin lived in Hampton for more than 35 years during which time he operated the Hampton General Store in 1982, served many years as Recording Secretary for the Hampton Planning and Zoning Board and also served on the Board of the Hampton Buyers' Cooperative. His greatest service was to the town as a member and Assistant Fire Chief of the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years. Kevin enjoyed his guitar, music, coin collections, poetry, animal husbandry, science, architectural challenges, nature, doodling and computer technology. He is loved and remembered most for his gentle nature, peaceful diplomacy, brilliant intellect and dry humor. To say he touched the lives of many is an understatement. A memorial will be held by the family to be announced at a later date to celebrate his life. Lives of great men all remind us, we can make our lives sublime.
